US House of Representatives: Reaction to the votes

Sunday, November 8, 2009

We recently informed you that the U.S. House of Representatives approved President Barack Obama’s new healthcare bill, most Americans will now be able to have a health plan and insurance companies will no longer be able to refuse a policy for those with a pre-existing illness.

The bill will now be passed to the Senate for final approval, it is no secret that they have been struggling to come up with their own legislation on a healthcare reform. Both bills will now have to be approved before president Obama can sign the new bill.

The bill won by a narrow margin, just 220-215. We also mentioned in a recent post that one Republican supported the Democrats bill. A number of politicians have been have been reacting to the recent vote, even the president himself.

Obama said, “Thanks to the hard work of the House, we are just two steps away from achieving health insurance reform in America. Now the United States Senate must follow suit and pass its version of the legislation. I am absolutely confident it will.”

Other reactions came from Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, House Republican leader John Boehner, president of the American Medical Association, James Rohack, president of America’s Health Insurance Plans Karen Ignani, amongst others. Read what they had to say by visiting Reuters.
