Hurricane Ida path: latest news and updates

Parts of the Yucantan Peninsula were under the hurricane warning.

HURRICANE IDA on Saturday was strengthened to a Category 2 storm and a hurricane watch ( a hurricane watch means hurricane conditions are possible in the next 36 hours) was asked to the Florida Panhandle as Ida headed towards the Gulf of Mexico.

The hurricane watch now stretches to Mexico beach from south eastern Louisiana. US forecasters have predicted that Ida could get stronger on Sunday as the day progresses.
It is believed that the Ida could reach the GulfCoast by Tuesday but it was not very clear regarding how strong it would be by then.
Early on Sunday, Ida’s wind and heavy rain caused severe destruction to the Mexican city of Cancun. Tourists thought that Ida was only a minor setback, whereas fishermen tied down their boats.
As the day progresses, restaurants and nightclubs placed large pieces of plywood covering their windows.
The Ida is expected to interact with a weak cold front over the open seas is likely to be a tropical storm or a low level hurricane by the time it reaches the Gulf Coast.
Some parts of the YucantanPeninsula were under the hurricane warning and tropical storm warning was in place for the western tip of Cuba with heavy rainfall expected.
