Boxing Day

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

To be honest, this blog isn’t really a big fan of the boxing.
Having said that whilst growing up in the seventies I was hooked on the fabulous Ali fights with Joe Frazier and George Foreman and later would follow Marvin Haggler and the like. I haven’t been interested much since.
However this week I have been hearing of the fight for a world heavyweight title which took place last night between British boxer David Haye and Russian Nikolai Valuev. It was being billed as “David v Goliath”.
Now, using your skill and judgement and remembering that Valuev (left) is much taller, has a longer reach and weighs SEVEN STONES (98lbs) more than Haye (right) which one would you have put your money on?
Bear in mind here that no boxing or sporting commentator or anyone in the media gave Haye a chance. Many considered the match a joke.

Here is how the result was announced at the end of the fight, in which the outcome was pretty much the same as the original David v Goliath.
